Description:

Fabric Charms are all the rage right now and chances are that youÒ€ℒve probably seen something about fabric charms posted on a blog or two lately, or maybe youÒ€ℒve heard about some of the charm swaps that are circulating around.

I have made a few of these for my daughter to have a bracelet. There is a link below to instructions. They are easy to make and are only 1x1 in size.So here is what we will do.

1-Swap Partner 12-Charm Squares

You will not be making the bracelet just the charms so your partner can make one.You can use them for other crafts as well.Super way to use up fabric scraps.

This is open to Newbies and is International.

EDITED

Unfortunately do to the amount of so sends from Newbies i feel i have to add this.I cannot continue to make up swaps for those who donot send their items. It gets really expensive especially if it's a dollar amount swap.

I donot want to sound mean or harsh.Swap-bot is suppose to be a fun place to swap not get cheated.More and more are signing up getting their swaps and then deleting their profile.Worse yet some even leave a 1 when they know they received their item and then delete their profiles.

I have had this happen alot lately as swap-bot becomes more popular.No-one in the future will be allowed to sign up for my swaps if they are a Newbie unless they will be receiving at least 3 swap ratings before the i assign partners. Most of my swaps are set for a month to two months ahead of time. The only exception to this will be the following.

At least 3 people you have sent your swaps to that have received their item and can vouch for you.

For those with just one 1 rating please sign up.For those with more then 1 no send you will need to contact me or i will remove you.

Sorry if this sounds mean or harsh but I'm getting increasingly frustrated with those who just don't care about or respect others.I think more hostesses will start doing this as well.

Take Care

funkykchicken 02/24/2007 #

Your right it is.You can also use a simpler stitch then that.I have been making mine a little looser. It has to stay in the 1 inch size though.I will post a pic of mine soon.

I am having an awful time trying to find the links listed. I am really new at the computer, I can turn it on, off, find my email and of course swap-bot. Please some one help me find these http things. google says it doesnt exist, am i in the wrong place. desmall53@yahoo.com Please put link help in the re- spot. Thanks for helping.

funkykchicken 03/ 2/2007 #

Do you know how to copy paste? Not trying to be mean just asking. If you do then copy the line starting with the http. Then do you see above in your browser bar and it will say http://www.swap-bot?

You would replace that with the link.First go to file in the upper left corner of your screen.Click on that and then click on open new window. Then copy the entire line and paste it into the browser bar.

Hope that helps.

All you have to do is go to google and type in "fabric art charms" there are lots of tutorials and pictures to see.

VINCAORCHID 03/ 4/2007 #

OH thanks for the info..I think I got it after messing around with some fabric scraps i just kept folden them smaller then use embroidery thread to stitch them neatly around the edges and then I add seed beads. These are really fun to make the scrap bag is going to get smaller here at my house Blessing !!

I have done collage fabric before and it is addictive!

I would like to do this swap, but I would prefer getting charms from many different people than all from one. Something like 3 charms each from 4 partners. And each square could be signed on the back. Kind of like mini Artist Trading Cards for fabric artists.

Just an idea.

niecedenise 03/12/2007 #

I like that idea too. Why dont you host a swap.

TerryF 03/13/2007 #

funkychickenoriginals:

  1. Do we make them all similar - or all different? Or does it matter?

  2. Do we put the eyelets in them? I am thinking that some people might not want eyelets...

Thx.

funkykchicken 03/13/2007 #

Bren:Thats a great idea if you don't host it yourself then i will next time.I wasn't sure how many people would actually sign up or want to do these.

Tassy:I plan to make mine all different.4 different patterns with 3 alike from each one.I think they should be different colors but still coordinate.Like blue,purple,black...

You donot have to put eyelets in them. When they receive them they can decide then if they do or dont want them.

Enjoy making them ladies.

TerryF 03/13/2007 #

Thx!

niecedenise 03/19/2007 #

Ill do it again. Im having a ball.

TerryF 04/16/2007 #

Lisa: Your charms will be in the mail tomorrow, April 17. T.

TerryF 04/18/2007 #

Lisa: My apologies but bloody work got in the way and so your charms haven't yet been mailed yet, but I am hoping there will be time tomorrow (April 19) to get them off. (I know they don't have to go out until the 30th but I didn't want you looking for them and thinking they were lost in the mail!) Thx. T.

TerryF 04/21/2007 #

Lisa: It took some doing, but your charms did finally get mailed yesterday, April 20! Whoo-hoo! lol

toscabelle 04/26/2007 #

And they have arrived Terry! They are really cool. Thank you so much!

TerryF 04/27/2007 #

My pleasure Lisa! (Boy that was fast!) T.

zanylady 04/28/2007 #

Oh dear....I think i goofed. I sent charms to Twisted Fluff but they were all the same. If this is wrong, let me know and I will make some more.

I forgot to add the stiffening to the first batch so made her a second batch so at least that's two different colors.

zanylady 04/28/2007 #

here I am again but with good news....received Deb-gray's charms....delightful!

They are not satin stitched on the edges....is that really necessary? This is my first try at these as it was for deb-gray.

Oh, and by the way....what is everyone going to do with theirs????

Since I made all mine in one color and made extra, I am going to make a necklace and add beads.

The charms do not have to be satin stitched. They do not have to all be different. They are lots of fun to make and a bit of a challenge i agree.

I have sent mine off today so I'm hoping my partner will like hers as well. When i get mine i plan to make a bracelet for my ankle...Cant wait to see what they look like.

TerryF 04/30/2007 #

I think they would look nice as the ends of a book thong, 2 or 3 of them layered (staggered) as a brooch, as a set of magnets...I plan to make a wrist bracelet with mine.

TerryF 04/30/2007 #

You're welcome Lisa!

funkykchicken 04/30/2007 #
