I've read over and over how many of us out there would LOVE to swap dotee dolls but you feel inadequate or worry that you won't be able to make a good enough doll well... Here's your chance! Make your doll knowing these things... Anyone who signs up for this swap is either in the same boat as you, or is a seasoned dotee swapper who remembers how they felt when they apprehensively made their first dotee doll. Here is where it's going to be okay if it's a baby only a mother could love! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_SlCwCYcsU There is a link (sorry, not clickable because I don't know how to do that (maybe someone will put it in the comments hint... hint...)) that shows you step-by-step how to make your doll. Here's what you need to know... Make your doll with any theme... she's YOUR baby, YOUR creation, let YOUR imagination take his/her form. She'll need a face that can be hand drawn with markers, embroidered with floss, or painted. It can even be clay! She'll need a stuffed cloth body. She'll need some form of hanger be it beads, ribbon, yarn, metal or what have you. She'll need a tail. Dotee should be 3-6" in length or thereabouts. The materials you use are up to you, and your imagination. For this swap you do NOT have to look at your partner's profile for likes/dislikes as you need to be left to your own creativity but feel very free to do so. Sending a dotee that falls under your partner's likes/dislikes will be how you earn a heart as going that extra yard is what hearts are all about. If you want ideas then look at each others profiles, flickr accounts and ask all the questions you want! This is where the seasoned gals can help new gals get started making their dolls! Goodness knows we can never have too many dotee doll makers on swap-bot! Since dotee is so light weight and easy to mail this swap is International. Feel free to do a USA only swap for this as well though. You will send one doll to one partner. I'm putting the sign-up date 2 weeks from today and the send by date 1 month later to give LOTS of time to work on your doll for the swap. Ladies! An afterthought here, but for those who have made at least one dotee doll in the past, it'd be super neat-o if you'd post a picture of your very first dotee doll (no matter how good or bad she turned out) in the comments section rather you sign-up for the swap or not! I just know we're all going to have such awesome experiences with this swap! Everyone is already thinking SO creatively! It's nice having a place to practice and not have to worry that because yours is 'different' that someone is going to rate you down. What's different here just might become your 'signature style' dotee! Remember... it's not the material you choose to use, it's not the face you choose to use, it's not the way you choose to bead or embellish that will get you your 5... it's that you DO IT! The only way to get rated down here is to just NOT do it at all and that will of course get you a 1 and get your partner an angeled dotee which yes they'll love because I have already got angeled dolls lined up thanks to RobinT (and her dolls ROCK MY SOCKS), but this is your chance to try it in an arena where nobody will criticize how you make your doll but you. In addition to that, if you're truly unhappy with what you get, PLEASE email me! Rate your partner their 5 for having made and sent their doll, give them a wonderful THANK YOU! (without ANY criticism) and then let me get a doll to you that you WILL be thrilled with okay? I LOVE the little ugly babies of the world but I do understand that not everyone does and that's OKAY! The whole plan here, especially now that we're in the Top Swaps is to just make sure that EVERYONE walks away with a prize to cherish handmade with love by someone else. |
