Description:

Who is up for a challenge to start the 2016 crafting off!? I'm over Pocket Letters but I am loving this teeny tiny Pocket Letter!

So here is the challenge:

Create a miniature Pocket Letter, size is optional as long as it is NO LARGER than an ATC, 2.5" x 3.5" and it should have 9 little pockets. Ideally then you can store it with your ATC's.

I will leave the details of construction up to your fabulously creative selves...mainly because I'm not totally sure how I'm going to do it either! I'll give us plenty of time to figure it out though.

Pockets of the pocket letter DO NOT have to open, they can be sealed shut. A letter inside a pocket is NOT mandatory...since it may be sealed shut anyway. :-) A note outside of the pocket letter would be nice. The picture above shows a "dangly bit"...however dangly bits are optional! ;-)

Look how cute it is....I can't be the only crazy one around , come join me and make a teeny tiny Pocket Letter!

If I have forgotten anything or something is not clear...let me know and I will fix it.

(Also, we like lots of chatter in our swaps, so once you join be sure to check the swap comments frequently and join in!)

definitely! and...I want nine of them so I can have a pocket letter of pocket letters!!!! I plan to sew a nine patch onto a pocket from a pocket letter and then slit the top of each one to create a real pocket letter....we will see if this works. I also plan to put a little letter inside!!! yep, over achiever here!! lol! I will make nine of them if 8 people will trade with me! (one is for me...)

Ky 12/18/2015 #

LOL....ok Sam you just went to the top of the crazy class!!

orneryswife 12/18/2015 #

What a fun challenge!! I'll have to think about it for a bit...

samjowers 12/18/2015 #

LOL! its the christmas season...it makes me crazy.

LahDeeDah 12/18/2015 #

I don't know, Ky! This looks hard! I'm with @orneryswife . . . thinking, thinking, thinking. :-)

Ky 12/18/2015 #

Nah...it'll be a piece of cake! I'm sure of it! ;-)

LizzyJo 12/18/2015 #

A challenge for sure....but a piece of cake? Dunno.......will watch for now, and if my head does not explode from thinking about how to do it, I may sign up.

dally 12/18/2015 #

A pocket letter of mini pocket letters? boom Sam, you blew my mind!!

Ky 12/19/2015 #

Yay Helga ( @manurnakey I thou g t you might be up for the challenge. ...especially a TINY challenge! :-) Great to see all the brave souls who signed up already!

@dally ....I agree!! I had to read Sam's post three times before I got it, a pocket letter page full of it tiny pocket letters! Wow!

I've already been looking around for teeny tiny things!

phillaine 12/19/2015 #

Sam-- I love that idea! I would love to make nine as well, so anyone who wants to trade, let me know! :)

Ky 12/20/2015 #

Woohoo for new sign-ups, we lured you in....haha!

Ky 12/20/2015 #

So my first idea was to cut one pocket out of a 9 pocket plastic card holder...cutting just outside the lines, but that won't work because then it would end up being larger than an ATC. (who made up these stinking swap requirements anyway?) Back to the drawing board!

I'm wondering what one could use to "heat seal" lines in plastic ?Anyone see/read "The Martian" ? (HIGHLY recommend both!) I'm going to science the (bleep) out of this! Hahahaha!

samjowers 12/20/2015 #

so i have actually sewn pocket letters to hold the smashed coins. i suggest that you sew them before you cut them. use a sharpie to draw your sewing machine lines. sew the outside of the pocket letter leaving the top part open. sew the two vertical lines. use tweezers to push the bottom three items down to the bottom. sew them in. push the next three items in....sew them in. leave the top open so that you can fit a letter in that can be taken out. your items need to be fairly flat so that they dont cause the "bulking" effect. you can then cut them out. i would leave the left side wider so you can punch tiny holes for them to fit into a tiny three ring binder....JUST KIDDING PEOPLE! im not designing a tiny three ring binder! lol!

Ky 12/20/2015 #

I think you're right, sewing is a better idea than heat (reluctantly putting my blow torch away).

Next swap up.....create and decorate a mini 3 ring binder for your partner...lol! Just kidding folks....really! :-)

samjowers 12/20/2015 #

i put up a thread in the forum for any questions or suggestions. i think everyone will be able to contribute. exciting challenge, @KY !!!

samjowers 12/20/2015 #

and really....? 6:30 in the morning?!!! why are we up?

Ky 12/20/2015 #

Haha....I am a very early riser but I go to bed at 9:30.:-)

orneryswife 12/20/2015 #

Loving this dialog. I added to the forum string. I hope this isn't a one time swap because I do like the idea of several on a page!

Ky 12/20/2015 #

Oh good idea! I never understand why people don't chat more in swaps. it doesn't make sense to me to sign up, create all alone and send off...much more fun to share about the process. :-)

piratecaptainmo 12/20/2015 #

I have now made seven of these, two more to go!

Ky 12/20/2015 #

No way! I'm still pondering! Haha!

Ky 12/22/2015 #

Yay! Another brave soul has joined us! :-)

samjowers 12/24/2015 #

ok, so i have nine working. not as easy as i thought it would be! but they are looking great so far! I LOVE a challenge!

phillaine 12/28/2015 #

I moved this to my watchlist because I have to prepare for a move in February and will be visiting family for a week, but I will try to make these and if I get them done in time, rejoin. :) I LOVE this swap idea!

Ky 12/28/2015 #

Oh no...moving is the pits! Hopefully can join us and good luck with packing!

stevado 12/29/2015 #

Last december 18 I asked you a question in a personel message, you did not answer, so I ask again: ............ what do you mean by a Pocket Letter: something to put a letter in........a bag or envelope to hold letters.............in this case something ATC-size to hold letters. I have to understand first before joining, I am on your watchlist, Stella.

orneryswife 12/29/2015 #

@stevado a pocket letter is (in the general sense of the term) a nine pocket page protector used by sports card collectors to store their cards in a manner in which they may be viewed without handling the cards each time. The page is a regular notebook size, 8.5" x 11", and the pockets are the same size as an ATC sleeve. A year or so ago, a woman named Janette Lane created a forum and made popular the idea of sending a letter and goodies in the pocket page. Each pocket was to contain some sort of paper, art, stickers, etc. And one pocket was to have a letter inside. Some people decorated the front only, other did both sides. The pocket page, when folded into thirds, fits a legal sized envelope for mailing. If you do a Google search for pocket letters there are thousands of examples. Hope that clarifies it for you.

Of course this swap is a miniature version, where you will put all nine pockets onto a small card that would fit into one pocket on a page protector.. There is a string in the forum with ideas for how to do that if you need more information.

stevado 12/29/2015 #

That's all really totally new for me, never heard, never seen, only read in swap-bot. Thank you very much for the information, I will study and perhaps I will join, Stella.

Ky 01/ 1/2016 #

Thank you for answering @orneryswife I answered in a pm also. I hope everyone is coming along with their tiny pocket letter!
