Miyazaki Kodama (Tree Spirit) Matchbox Shrine

A kodama (木霊, 木魂, or 木魅, kodama?) is a spirit from Japanese folklore, which is believed to live in certain trees (similar to the Dryad of Greek myth). Cutting down a tree which houses a kodama is thought to bring misfortune, and such trees are often marked with shimenawa rope.

• For this swap we will be doing the Miyazaki style Kodama from the film Princess Mononoke.

• You will make one shrine for one partner

• We will be using the smaller kind. The 32ct Matchboxes. They can be found at Walmart, most gas stations, grocery stores, etc. There's also a template that you can find online. Here's One

• Put effort and love into these little shrines! Don't just slap a sticker on it and call it done! If you're not familiar with the Kodama..... rent the movie and watch it! It is one of my all time favorite films!

• The shrine should represent the tree and the spirit that dwells in it :D
