Description:

Ever seen a hexaminizine or hexaminibook? Me, neither, until the other week. Suddenly, I am finding several types of hexagon-shaped little books and zines.

Here are some choice examples:

Created by a language teacher, all pages open to center

A honeycomb book about bees!

Flower-flap hexagon template

A couple different ways of joining hexagons ...

Could you possibly make a hexabook out of fabric? Hmm...

If you send a handle, your recipient could turn this hexagon based flower into a little basket ...

More embellished hexagons

A more elaborate minialbum

Send your project in a hexagon shaped envelope if you are adventurous ...

Another hexagon envelope, much simpler!

And another tutorial for an origami envelope.

Or, alternatively, fold your work up in a larger fold-in minizine style above.

If you make a thicker or dimensionally embellished hexaminibook, you might want to send it in a padded envelope, of course.

In short, use your creative effort and cool skills to make one hexagon-shaped minizine or minibook for one partner. Send it, hexagonal envelope encouraged but not absolutely required if it does not suit your minizine or minibook. Sit back and appreciate the amazing zig-zagginess of the hexagon!

Please be zig-zaggily cool, and communicate with partners -- I will hexagon any unsent swaps.

Forgive the excess enthusiasm, but one other fun thing about hexagons is the fact that they can be divided into various patterns of equilateral triangles. Expands the book design possibilities. Hexagons are the shape with the largest number of sides that can be regularly tesselated, which is a fancy word for "put together like tiles in a way where there is no gap between the tiles." In fact, hexagons put together like tiles are basically like many triangles put together like tiles.

Theme of the zine is senders choice?

rngstgstll 09/20/2015 #

Absolutely. Thanks for the clarification :)

Oh, wow, how cool is this? An international art project for kids that uses hexagons as a tool to emphasize the theme of interdependence?! Check out all the cool hexagon ideas in the teacher resource section! The Hexagon Project

Hexagon zine sounds cool - as long as no spiders are involved in the giving or receiving of this swap!
