Description:

Love pocket letters, but want to try something a leeetle bit different? How about a Pocket Envelope?

This looks like fun!

As with my pocket letter swaps - this will not have to follow any type of particular rule. Don't have twine? Then don't tie up your paper with twine. Don't have washi tape? Use glue!

Do make your pockets pretty - and one pocket should contain a letter. The other pockets will contain little flat gifts, like stickers, stamps, ephemera, etc. Use your imagination!

This is sender's choice, so that you can get a head start on it if you would like to.

So what are you going to do? Let's break it down:

1) You are going to click on the clicky link and read the tutorial!

2) You are going to make beautiful, wonderful, whimsical envelopes to use in your pocket envelope.

3) Next, put some crap, I mean, put some fun stuff in the pockets! Does it have to be profile based? NOPE! But, you know, if you're a nice person and your partner doesn't like cats (stupid I know, but some people just don't like 'em), then maybe don't send 'em cats... I don't think cats fit into envelopes, anyway.

4) Lastly, but most certainly and definitely not least, you are going to have fun with this! I encourage wine drinking while creating - it'll make it tons of fun. Just don't splash on your newly created envelopes.

Things important enough to mention:

A) The Letter: It does not have to be a certain amount of pages, nor does it have to be on a certain size paper. Just use your best judgement - one sentence does not a letter make. String a few of those babies together, and maybe use a paragraph break or two and you should be good.

If you're the wordy type, just keep typing and typing and typing... I'm sure it'll be appreciated!

B) The tutorial mentions Kawaii several times - this is not a kawaii swap. It's a whatever-you-want-it-to-be swap. (But if Kawaii is what you want it to be, then kawaii-on, sister!)

C) No promises for angeling the swap. If I can, I will. If I can't, I'm sorry. Do let me know if you need an angel, though - I will definitely do my best!

D) Remember, this is a low pressure swap and mail art is subjective. If you are a picky person, hit the back arrow because this is not the swap for you. Keep in mind this is sender's choice - not yours.

Requirements:

Normally I try to make my swaps newbie friendly, but for this one I'm going with swapping oldies. Must have at least 20 swaps under your creative belt.

Other than that, I am not going to give this a minimum rating, however will review each profile and ban where appropriate. (Recent 1s and 3s not make the cut. If you received a 3 recently that you feel was undeserved, you can PM me - I'll listen.) If you have an issue with someone, please do private message me. I'm not always up-to-date on the latest flakers and fakers, so if you have a concern, I will definitely "listen"!

No APO/FPO addresses.

I am a little confused! Do we decorate actual envelopes(ie, an envelope journal) and put together like a book or a sheet that can some how be put in a binder? Very ve ew to this need lots of help. Thanks Judy

Do you know how long it is in inches?

andy007 07/18/2015 #

Why no APO/FPO's? :(

Wingy 07/18/2015 #

Do we buy the envelopes or make them

quirkandbramble 07/21/2015 #

Questionnnnn! Is there any particular set of dimensions that the finished item should meet? Like, 4 1/8" x 9 1/2" or something? Or does it not matter? =)

quirkandbramble 07/21/2015 #

(Dimensions above are standard business envelope size. Forgot to specify that...)

@andy007 - I used to be in the Army, and had an APO address for many, many years. Mail tends to get lost more often in the APO/FPO system. I'm attempting to reduce risk for the swappers.

I'm sorry if this offends you - and I get it, being as I used to have an APO address myself. However, on the other hand. so many mail pieces go missing in the regular mail system - let alone the APO/FPO system. As I said, I'm just trying to reduce risk - which is also why I never make my swaps international as well.

OH man.... you guys are NOT making this easy peasy! Just curious, did you look at the tutorial? I don't mean to be sarcastic - just wondering, because I think some of the questions could be answered by looking at the tutorial - I'll have to look at it again myself, because I'm an old lady and I've forgotten....

As for the nitty gritty, I really hate to put a rule on artistic creativity - business-sized envelope sized paper seems to be what's used in the tutorial, but you know, I don't think anyone should be marked a 3 if they use standard-sized envelope paper. I'm just not sure how the envelopes would fit on that size paper, unless they were really small.

Look, whatever size you want, do it. Just be sure it can hold approximately the amount of envelopes in the tutorial. That's your jumping off point.

So... to answer wingy's question, I think the challenge part comes from making the envelopes and then decorating the accordion-style paper. However, if you have some pretty envelopes that you purchased, I don't see why you can't use them. Just try to actually make a few of the envelopes.

As for the actual envelope this accordion-style letter-slash-envelope is placed in to be mailed, that can be a store-bought #10 envelope - or whatever size it will fit into.

So... let's not think too much on this and keep it easy peasy, okey dokey?

Lol! Poor @LMeowkin 💝

I realized after I commented that it probably didn't matter, but it was too late! Sorry for complicating things! xD
