Description:

Time to put together an art journal with fabulous art from our fellow group members!

I'm planning on continuing these page swaps regularly. Some themes might be easy, some might be a little more of a challenge. You are welcome to take the opportunity to experiment and stretch your horizons or to stick to what you are comfortable making.

I'm planning on keeping the size the same across all of the swaps so that we can bind the pages as we see fit, or add them to journals we may already have.

For the second swap, I challenge you to create an art journal page somehow relating to a rainbow. Do you want to have a rainbow with a pot of gold at the end? Does the rainbow flag have significance in your life? Do you just want to feature a rainbow of colors? It's up to you!

The requirements for your journal page:

  • Theme: Rainbow
  • Size: 5" x 5" (12.7 cm x 12.7 cm)
  • Color Palette: Rainbow
  • Artistic Medium: Any - collage, paint, pencil, ink, etc. (please do not use sharpies or tape on your journal pages, as they will not retain their look)

Since this is an art journal page and the art we create we do in our image, this page is completely sender's choice. Please leave the back of your page blank in case your partner wants to mount your page and include a note for your partner with at least the swap information.

Also, when mailing, do not fold your page! :-)

Any questions? Just ask! Is there a page you would like to have for your journal? Let me know. :-)

How do we mail? What's the best option for keeping it flat and not folded?

For mailing, it depends a little on how chunky your page ends up being. You have a few options for mailing, depending on how you think your piece will handle the mail system. I always recommend an extra piece of paper or card stock between your art and the envelope.

1 - If you feel your piece is flexible, you can use an envelope that is slightly larger than your page. If you keep it square, you'll need to add and extra $.22.

2 - If you feel your piece is flexible, you can use an envelope that is larger than your page, like a 6" x 9" envelope. You would want to put a piece of card stock (or something equally stiff, but flexible) in the envelope that is the same size as the envelope to protect your envelope from catching on the postal machinery. This method would cost the least.

3 - If you aren't sure how your page will hold up if it bends, I would use a stiff piece of cardboard in your envelope and have your artwork facing the cardboard. Under 1/4" thick and it should only cost an extra $.22, but over that and you'll end up paying package prices to mail it.

Prices and measurements are based on US postal rates. The packaging methods can, of course, be used outside of the US, but I don't know the corresponding costs.
