Description:

I'm doing a US only one right now, you're more than welcome to create an international if you'd like!!

I wonder how many postal carriers out there read our postcards. So let's do an experiment and you'll send one postcard to your one partner and put a note to the postal carrier on it!

Something along the lines of: "Dear Postal Workers, We're doing an experiment to see if this card is read by postal workers! Put a smiley face here if you've read this!!"

So that way we can see if they read it! You can be more creative in your message, but try to incorporate a way for them to say if they've read it! :D

Postcards are senders choice!

When you receive, leave feedback letting your partner know if you got a smiley face and please post on this swap page so the rest of us can see as well!

Ratings of 4.9 required.

Is it okay if we send a handmade postcard? I feel like sometimes postal workers are curious or pay more attention to things out of the ordinary (maybe not just your normal printed cards).

^I would say that's fine!

Do you feel like since it's illegal to read other people's mail, that might stop a lot of people from reading these?

@1happyday I participated in the first swap and the card I sent got one smiley face, and the one I rec'd had 3! It was a lot of fun, and there was a lot of anticipation of seeing whether or not we'd get smileys:) It's been one of my favorite swaps:)

Last time, I didn't try to make my postcard any more elaborate than I already send them, as an experiment. I know that my personal postman looks at the p.c.'s, but he is in such a rush that I don't think he has the time to add a smiley or check mark.

This time, I will see if I can brighten up the p.c. and try to grab their attention more. We'll see.

@1happyday - Someone else in a previous swap: " from what I was told by a postal carrier once, if it's on a postcard, then it's not against the law for anyone to read it; because it's out there, open in the the public for anyones eyes to read that may come across it. Therefore, only packaged / enveloped items are illegal to read by someone other than the addressed recipient." and someone else said "As a postal carrier I do sometimes read them. Most aren't very exciting but it is interesting to see where people travel etc.

We aren't allowed to mark up the mail unless it is officially. But I would think that if there was a request to mark it I would do so :) But then I am fun like that ha ha. So this will be fun to see if it works."

Also, that's also why I don't say, "Initial here" a smiley face is generic, if someone wanted to be annoying and throw a fit, they can't say who did it anyway!

@squince & @1happyday - that was me in the previous swap mentioning that it's not illegal for the postal people or anyone, for that matter, to read a postcard. Now some could question the morality, integrity or consideration for one's privacy, but it's not illegal. Plus, like you said, we are inviting them to read it.

The postcards I sent are clearly written to address the postal workers attention to thank them and invite them to participate in our experiment. So right there, we are giving them permission, too.

It is not illegal to read postcards since it is out there for all to see. And yes, as a mail carrier I sometimes read them. Most are pretty boring but it is interesting to see where people travel to.

And that was me who said we aren't to mark mail unless it is on an official basis. But if someone has it on their card to mark it I would :)

@swededreams that sounds like fun to see where in the world people travels to and seeing all the pictures; it's like mini stories of humanity.

Unfortunately, both of the p.c.'s I received did not have any smiley faces. :-/ ~ One of the p.c.'s was big and catchy, too. I'm sure that they were read by some postal workers, I just think they are too busy these days to write on them.

squince 06/13/2015 #

Neither did either of mine! Dang!

Despite this, do people still like doing this? I do, but if people are disgruntled about not getting any and not wanting to do it, let me know and I'll stop making the swaps :)
