When we consider what a shell is, it is a protective covering for the creature inside making shells also good for protection spells. We can use them in our witches bottles, or strung on a necklace; for this swapping purpose, we can use the shell as part of any art form we work with. Or you can simply send an unadorned shell with a corresponding spell.

Shells can also be used in divination, use in a set with pebbles, crystals and bones to cast a reading. I have scribed glyphs on the inside of a shell using chocolate, juice or water soluble paints & pens.

Particular shells also have their own individual meanings:

Abalone - general use and containment of empowered herbs and stones

Clam shells - purification and love

Conche shell - love

Cone shell - protection

Cowrie shell - prosperity, money

Whelks - dramatic positive change

Limpets - courage, confidence, strength

Scallops - travel, movement

Minimum requirement for this swap is to send one partner one of the shells from above with a spell to enhance its significance. It is to be a shell suitable for an altar, or to hang on a Western wall to bring in the specific energy.
