Description:

This will be a continuing series of swaps, in which we will end up with tags that can then be tied together or put on a ring to create a small eclectic journal. We will be building our little journal 1 or 2 tags at a time. You could also just tuck your tags into a pocket in your journal, or smash them in.

You can use a premade shipping tag, or make a sturdy tag in the shape of a premade one. Don't forget to reinforce the hole at the top if you create your own, so that it's sturdy.

You will be decorating your tag(s) on both sides. Feel free to use paints, inks, papers, ephemera, drawing, rubber stamping, collage, etc. You may add extra little decorative bits like a little pocket, fibers, or paper clip. You may want to leave a bit of space so that your partner may write on her tag if she wishes.

The tags you use should be around the size of a NO. 5 shipping tag, which is 4 3/4" X 2 3/8. A bit bigger would also be acceptable, but your tag shouldn't be any smaller. I think that a few different size tags would be nice to give the journal some interest and a more eclectic feel.

These are completely sender's choice, so let your creativity shine! You need not be an artist, but you will need to put some time and thought into creating your tags. No sticker slapping! Send your best work :) When sending, please secure your tags safely in the envelope to minimize chance of damage.

Be sure to include a note with your swap-bot name and the name of the swap.

If you have any questions, please PM me or comment below :)

Happy creating!

Does anyone have a template for the tag. So I can copy it?

sassafrass 04/14/2015 #

@Tessssssa I tried to find one for you, but can't. I've also tried converting a scan of one to a template, but I'm kind of technically challenged :D What you could do is this:

  • cut a rectangle approx. 12cm X 6cm
  • punch a hole in the center at the top
  • measure down 1.5cm from the top and put a small mark on the right side
  • across the top, measure in 1cm from right side and put a small mark
  • cut at an angle, from mark to mark
  • repeat for other side

I've put a very rough sketch on my flickr photos to show the measurements and dotted line to cut. It's HERE

I hope this helps! If not, let me know and I'll see if I can get a PDF file for a template.

I bought tags that are 5.25 in x 2.62 in. Is that ok? Thanks, Marisa
