Description:

We were all newbies once, and I remember how hard it was to find a newbie friendly type 3 swap to start building up my profile, so this easy, low-cost swap is to help out all those newbies that need to start somewhere. :-)

For this swap you will make 1 handmade card with an envelope and send it to your partner. (the envelope doesn't need to be handmade, just the card) The card is sender's choice, but please check out your partner's profile and don't send them something from their dislike list. The card should not be written in so that your partner can use it sometime in the future. The minimum size for the card is 4 1/4 x 5 1/2.

The card needs to be of good quality, made from good quality cardstock, with time and attention put into the card. You can use rubber stamped images, die cuts, Cricut die cuts, punches, ribbon, brads, buttons, embossing, or any other embellishments or crafty techniques to decorate your cards. Just please make them of the same quality that you would like to receive. The point of a handmade card is for it to be something unique that you cannot buy in a store.

I want to be very clear- the card SHOULD NOT be just a printed piece of copy paper folded in half, a folded piece of paper with a sentiment written on it, a folded piece of cardstock with stickers stuck on it, a few cardboard figures scotch-taped onto the front of the card, or portions of a store-bought card cut out and stuck onto a piece of card stock. This is not the swap for you if you have never made a handmade card before, or do not have the time or experience to create a good quality card.

I will angel this swap, if necessary, once you have rated your partner a 1 and notified me of the flake.

Requirements:

Ò€’ Newbies allowed with a WELL FILLED OUT profile. I will check all profiles before assigning partners and reserve the right to ban at my discretion.

Ò€’ All other swappers must have a minimum 4.90 rating

Ò€’ No 1s or 3s in the last 6 months without a reasonable explanation.

Please make sure to send your swaps out on time and rate as soon as you receive your items. Don't forget to put your swapbot user ID and the name of the swap somewhere in your package so that your partner can rate you easily.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me or leave a comment below and I will answer as soon as I can! Thanks

Hello! I just joined today and signed up for this swap. This will be the first of what I am pretty sure are many more silly questions to come. Once I've made the card, where do I send it? I want to make sure I do this right and get off to a good start! :)

Hi, JaneInSD! I think I know you from PostCrossing, I'm "ReboWrites" there, and just signed up for Swap-Bot today after hearing about it at the SD PostCrossing meet up. Looking forward to trying this out! :)

@SusanJohnson - welcome to swap-bot! I hope you have a great time on here sharing your crafting and making new friends. Once the signup deadline of Feb. 27 passes, I will assign partners. Partners are randomly assigned by the swap-bot computer system, so I don't have any say in who are assigned as partners. There is a box in the upper right hand corner of the swap. There will be a choice that says "see the partner you send to". Click on that link, and it will give you the name and address of your swap partner. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask. We were all newbies once. :-)

@ReLight - that's awesome!! So nice to hear from you. :-) I'm so glad that you gave swap-bot a try!!! You will love it! Let me know if you have any questions, I'm happy to help. :-) Looking forward to our next Postcrossing meeting.

Is this a monthly series or something? If so how do I see them all? Would love to do this often as card making is what I enjoy most!

JaneInSD 02/23/2015 #

@Serendipitylh - I haven't made it a monthly series yet, although I've been holding them about every 4 weeks for the last 3 months. I have a monthly series of Technique Card Challenges. The one for February just finished and I haven't posted the one for March yet because I've been super busy. That should go up this week. I also have another series that I do called Handmade Cards for All Occasions that I do about every 4-6 weeks. It is to help us fill our stash of extra cards on hand for special occasions, like birthday, graduation, illness, holidays, etc. The last 2 swaps are not for newbies, however. This is the only newbie swap that I am currently doing.

4.90 is a VERY low rating. I saw someone with less than 100 swaps and 5 1s and she still had over 4.95!

JaneInSD 02/27/2015 #

@thebragal I understand your concern, but this is a newbie friendly swap for a reason. This low-cost/low-risk swap allows new and unrated swappers and those with less than stellar ratings a chance to build (or re-build) their profile. Who hasn't needed a chance, or a second chance, in their life before?

I explicitly state that rated swappers cannot have any 1s or 3s in the last 6 months without a reasonable explanation. Plus, I am willing to angel if someone flakes and will ban that person from future swaps. If the parameters for this swap isn't for you, I encourage you to check out my other swaps that are similar in nature but require a higher rating minimum. :-)

is a 5x5 card okay?

JaneInSD 03/ 5/2015 #

@mermaidglues - yes. :-)
