Description:

One of my favorite art movements, the Pre-Raphealite Brotherhood. If you don't recognize the name, I know for sure you will recognize the art. Some famous artists that were Pre-Raphealite included the much loved John William Waterhouse (see pic above); Gabriel Rossetti; William Holman Hunt; John Everett Millais and more. Google or Pinterest the Pre-Raphaelite's and you will realize you've seen the artwork on stationary and greeting cards, calendars, books, posters, etc.

The Mail Art Postcard you make will need to be at least a standard postcard size, on sturdy cardstock, and on the image side have Mail Art featuring a painting(s) from the Pre Raphaelite movement. You may use any art medium you choose to embellish and make the design your own. Put time and creativity into making it special. Do neat work when cutting your materials.

On the address side write a message to your partner about what your grateful for this thanksgiving season and/or share a special quote with them about gratitude/thankfulness. Send Naked (which means not in an envelope) & Stamped & be sure to secure all embellishments before sending it to your partner.

Id love to do more Mail Art swaps based on other art movements, if there is any in particular any members would like to see, maybe you can comment below. I was thinking Alphonse Mucha would make great Mail Art, as well as Monet, Van Gogh, Renoir, Klimt, Da Vinci, etc.

PRB is one of my favorite art movements!!

MissWhimsy 11/10/2014 #

Good to hear @Dakini55 :)

I like your list of other art movements! What about Modigliani, Franz Marc, Hannah Hoch, and I love Francoise de Felice (she might be to modern) and of course di Vinci.

MissWhimsy 11/12/2014 #

Those are great ones @Dakini55 I was also thinking of Leonardo Da Vinci and some of the other Great Masters, like Michelangelo, etc. I will add the ones you suggested to my list. I thought even Escher might be fun. And maybe some newer art movements as well.

Fauvism (ex. Matisse); Klimt; Mucha; Maybe a Surrealism Collage?

MissWhimsy 11/12/2014 #

I like those @mahlermail Im a huge fan of Mucha, and I was just looking at Fauvism online last night since I wasn't sure what artists were all associated with it, Klimt is great too, I really love the collage idea!

I live in Birmingham, England. Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery has a fabulous collection of pre-Raphaelite art. They've digitised it and it's available at BMAG Pre-Raphaelites

And this website has good quality photographs of the stained glass windows by Burne-Jones in Birmingham Cathedral.

Oh thanks for the awesome links hazelwitch3! :)

A favorite subject of mine. I've hosted a few Van Gogh Mail Art Post Card Swaps in Creative Collage or What's In Your Mailbox groups!

Looking forward to this PRB swap!

Dakini55 11/20/2014 #

Gee maybe there should be a group just for this!!!

MissWhimsy 11/21/2014 #

Wow great pic @skybridgestudios I was thinking the same thing @Dakinin55 but on the other hand this is a great group for these type of Mail Art swaps! I was thinking Klimt maybe for the next one.

Dakini55 11/21/2014 #

Well there is always room for both! :)
