Description:

You've heard of junk journals, list journals, Smash Journals, art journals, recipe journals, non-journal journals?? (Whatever they are), Wreck this Journal journals, quote journals and so on down the whole list. Well, this journal swap is for a journal that is a little bit of everything! We will junk it, quote it, Smash it, list it, art it, and send it on... So as you have probably guessed, this swap will be somewhat time intensive, but unlike other journal swaps where each person does a whole book, we will pass this one around and get some of everything from everyone! First of all, we will either make or purchase a journal. Your journal should measure about 5x7 or smaller. We will keep them small to cut down on postage costs. I've found some great little journal type books at the dollar store that would work perfect for this swap. Make sure the pages are sturdy enough to take a bit of abuse..or at the very least, some paint.. :) The number of pages should be at least 30. When the journal is full, it will be sent home. For this first round, take your journal and on the inside cover enter some information about yourself. The basic stuff such as your birthday, favourite colour(s), favourite foods, (are you a Vegen for instance), and so on. Also, please put this group and swap name somewhere to differentiate this journal/swap from any others we may happen to be in. This information will be used for future rounds. On the first page write a short note to the other participants of the swap containing any information/instructions you wish them to have. Things such as "I really hate pink, please don't use it in my journal" or "please put your name and date on the bottom left corner of your page" and so on. Also a nice "hey, thanks for working in my journal! I can't wait to see what you've done" is always welcome. :) On the last page enter the following information. Swapbot user name, full name, and address.

Each round of the swap will be accompanied with at least 3 journal prompts. These prompts will be a mixed bag including some basic art prompts but there will always be a non art prompt as well for those who aren't comfortable sharing their art.

The three prompts for this round are:

  1. Quotes (a simple quote at the very least, but must add some colour)

  2. A splash of this and a dash of that (for some artsy play)

  3. I have a glue stick and I'm not afraid to use it. (Open to interpretation)

Choose 1 of these to add into your journal. Each entry will be two pages.

I will do my best to time each round so that each participant will have a journal in their possession to do one of the current prompts in before they have to send it out. In order to do this, each round will be posted with a fairly long time before the sign up date and also some time between the sign up and send out.

Throughout this swap series I am open to suggestions for prompts and so on. Just shoot me a message. :)

Most of all, have fun!

I really want to do this BUT I have been through a couple nightmare traveling journal swaps and I am just nervous about starting another one. I will watch for now and try to talk myself into it. Thanks.

@grandmaroro I can totally understand that. That is why I'm doing this in this group. While I cannot make the promise that no one will flake, I can promise that I am pretty darn careful about who gets in this group. Also, before partners are assigned I will be weeding anyone out who may be even the slightest risk. In the end, it will be a pretty tight group. :)

Okay - I'm in. I understand that there are no absolutes, and I have been flaked on by "5" swappers --- it's called life. So, I will just continue to do what I love to do (which is swap) and pray for those who can't / don't complete their promises. Thanks Shannon.

@grandmaroro I'm glad you joined.. :)

I have 2 traveling art journals that are still "out there" somewhere and I have come to the conclusion that I will never get them back! I'm going to join this because I really want a collaborative journal, but it's kind of scary. I will definitely keep track of who it goes to each round!

@grammag I'm so sorry you have lost journals. I sure hope they show up someday..and soon. I haven't had to deal with that yet, but I have a couple small journals "out there" now, so we'll see. I was thinking of taking this swap to the forums and making a thread there for it for a few rounds, and then after 3 rounds, getting them sent home before I make it into another swap. Something along those lines anyway. I'd like to keep the same journals from going to the same people too often as well as have the journals returned home every so often so that the owners can see them and have the option to not take part for a few rounds if they desire.. I'm still working out all the details.

30 pages.....is that 30 pages counting front and back, or 30 pages that make 60 front and back?

SFreer 09/29/2014 #

30 pages.. Meaning 60 if you count front and back.. .. I know it's a lot but I think we can do it.. :-)

it is very helpful to send out a group message when the new rounds are up to remind us to join.

SFreer 10/ 2/2014 #

Hi Diane. I send out reminders before swap sign up dates as reminders to those watching.. I will send out reminders when future swaps are up as well. I will try to combine them. :-)
