I am always interested in new and unique beads, and I love trying to make new ones out of all sorts of different materials, polymer clay, found wood, beeswax, felt and other fibers, different types of papers, metal bits, and even soap! So this is my challenge to you: make at least 2 types of beads (out of anything) and try to make at least five of each type, and send them to one partner. If this goes well maybe we'll do this again, maybe with more than one partner to get a good mix of talent. I don't think anyone else was running a swap like this, but if they were, feel free to let me know and I'll credit them. The beads can be made out of any material you choose, but should be wearable, meaning that if you use a weird material like soap, it should be sealed in some way so it won't irritate skin or melt with perspiration. I've sealed paper beads with Modge Podge and also Golden Clear Tar Gel. Oh, if you make traditional glass beads, that's cool too, these beads don't have to be wacky, just handmade. This is fun and experimental lets appreciate each other's work! So new swappers welcome with well filled out profile, rated swappers with 4.6 or above, zero no-sends in the past 3 months, and this is an international swap since shipping probably won't be too expensive. Oh, and beads have holes in them.....don't do something like send 10 stones without holes and call them beads, the only exception is if they have some other devise that would allow them to be attached to a chain or cord. Try to send something you would like to receive, make them lovely!

So my beads could be polymer clay and perhaps fiber beads. So do the 5 of each of the two sets have to be the same color or shape?

ah good question, I was just thinking about making a comment about that. I guess I was thinking the two sets of five should have a relationship, the most obvious being that each set is made out of the same material(s) and are the same color(s). But there is a little room for interpretation, say I make five polymer beads, they don't have to be exact, but it would be sad if they all looked terribly different like leftover odds and ends. If the beads within the set didn't necessarily all look the same, but if they matched each other at least a little so someone could use them all in a necklace or something, that would be great. Or another example, someone makes 5 cloth beads, all are the same exact color, but each is made out of a different type of fiber, one is felted wool, one is crochet, one is plain dyed cotton, one is quilted cotton, one is something else, but since all are the same exact color, i'd say its a set, it's a strong enough relationship being that they are the same color and all fibers. i hope i clarified. they just shouldn't look like odds and ends beads.

my, what a long ppost that was... and i am still going....so to actually answer your question now, needlewings, those material choices sound great, and no, they don't necessarily have to be the same color or shape, but like i said, there should be a relationship between the five within each set. :)

Mine are all finished and coordinated to do a whole necklace. However, I don't think it sad if they were all different. Artists think outside the box and find unique ways to use them, but I guess not everyone thinks that way.

That's true. I guess i meant it would be sad if the sent beads just looked like the odds-and-ends rejects from someone's efforts. :)
