Description:

A United States and Canada swap only, please!

For this swap you will have two partners. You are to send a card commemorating Groundhog Day to each one. The card may be handmade or store-bought, humorous or serious, in an envelope or not (if it's a postcard), but it should reflect the GROUNDHOG tradition (as opposed to Imbolc, Candlemas, or other traditions on or around Feb. 2nd).

If you choose to and are able to, it is permissable to include something additional that is related to the occasion, but sending a card is all that is required or expected.

Cards should be mailed by Saturday, January 27th, to ensure their arrival before Groundhog Day on Friday, Feb. 2nd -- although much more time should be allowed if sending from the USA to Canada or vice versa.

From Wikipedia:

"Groundhog Day is a traditional festival celebrated in the United States and Canada on February 2. It is a cross-quarter day, midway between the Winter Solstice and the Vernal Equinox.

"In traditional weather lore, if a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day and fails to see its shadow because the weather is cloudy, winter will soon end. If the groundhog sees its shadow because the weather is bright and clear, it will be frightened and run back into its hole, and the winter will continue for six more weeks."

(Googling "Groundhog Day" will bring up many, many pages of information and resources.)

I received my Groundhog card from Samantha 01/29/07. The weather report in my area calls for cloudy skies. But then in Houston we rarely even need a winter coat.
