It's time to celebrate a return to posting swaps at ASBB , after a break! In this swap, let's be inspired to create something wearable featuring Adinkra as our inspiration. "Adinkra are visual symbols, originally created by the Ashanti of Ghana and the Gyaman of Cote dΓ’β¬β’Ivoire in West Africa. They represent concepts or aphorisms, and are extensively used in fabrics, pottery, logos and advertising. The symbols have a decorative function but also represent objects that encapsulate evocative messages that convey traditional wisdom, aspects of life or the environment." Mawuna Remarque Koutonin, from Silicon Africa web site article on Adinkra . "Something wearable" can be a patch (embroidered, created with fabric markers or paints), a brooch or pin (needle-felted, made from paper that is then protectively coated -- might be able to ship flat!), a necklace, a ring, a hair decoration, a scarf .. the gates to your imagination are open! Any medium can be used -- wood, fabric, paper, polymer clay, feathers ...? International shipping is expensive, and I want this to be an affordable adventure! Requirements are to have some Type 3 swaps completed and rated, have great ratings, and an openness to trying something new and receiving something new! Anyone who may not meet qualifications can contact me about a 1:1 swap. I angel all my swaps. The graphic presented here is a picture from a monument in NYC with a Sankofa, which represents reaching back to the past in order to learn from it and bring it to our knowledge of the present -- something I'd love to see happen in this swap! |
