Description:

For this swap we will fashion a single tarot card/fortune tellling card and send to three partners. How you want to design your card is completely up to you, the only real guidelines are: the back side of the card should be a neutral design and the fortune/tarot side should be capable of being reversed (i.e. the image should have a right side and a wrong side). 2) the design may be painted, drawn, stamped or ironed on, but it must be flat. So no 3-D glue-ons. (Stickers and other flat add on decorations are fine). For the sake of having a uniform deck please make the dimensions of each card: 11cm x 6mm (approx 4.33 by 2.36 inches)

On another card of the same size you should write a brief description of the cards meaning in its upright and its reversed positions. Example: let's say I design a card that features a rat, I might say that the upright position means ingenuity during hard times, survival at all costs, etc. and the reverse meaning might be failure to make one's way, etc. Again, it is completely up to you how you want to structure the cards. If this first swap is a success, I plan to run this once a month for the indefinite future so that those of us who want a "pack" will have one.

This swap is open to international participants. Please do not sign up unless you have a rating of 4.5 or higher and have sent all of your swaps. Feel free to contact me with questions.

Happy Swapping!

Ashley

This sounds so fun! Is there a size guideline for the cards? It seems like if they're all the same size, the decks we eventually collect will be much easier to use.

mapps 12/12/2006 #

Thanks for this idea, yes, let's make the cards 11mm x 6mm.

mapps 12/12/2006 #

Oops! That should read cm not mm ( 11 by 6 cm or 4.33 inches by 2.36 inches)

ktsmurf 12/13/2006 #

I'm a newbie, is it ok for me to join in? I love this idea, and would happily participate in a recurring swap with this theme.

DreamHope 12/13/2006 #

What a neat idea! I am looking forward to trying my hand at making this kind of card, after just reading Tarot in the past.

user2479 12/13/2006 #

I'm so excited about this, the Tarot ATC swap was great.

mapps 12/13/2006 #

Welcome all --yes, newbies are welcome along with anyone with a record of 4.5 or higher.

ribarnica 12/24/2006 #

Just to clarify... are we intended to craft versions of actual tarot cards (queen of pentacles, the fool, the tower, judgement, etc.), or our own personally invented tarot-style cards (for instance, The Rat, Morning Coffee, The Subway, Snow, etc.)? I'm cool with it either way, but I want to make sure I'm on the right track before I get started. Thanks!

mapps 12/28/2006 #

You are invited to invent your own cards --but you may also craft or alter prexisting cards. Whatever suits you best. Ashley

user2479 01/ 8/2007 #

Should the cards have rounded corners, like playing cards/tarot cards normally do?

mapps 01/ 9/2007 #

That would be a nice touch, if you are so inclined. i will round the corners of mine, but I will leave the decision to each of you. Thanks for the suggestion.

Even though I'm a newbie, Ashley has been kind enough to let me know this swap.

I'm excited! I both read and collect tarot cards, and am in the process of making a deck for my own use. Collaborative decks are the best of all-something you've had a hand in, but which also lets you enjoy artwork done by others, and the decks are unique.

Welcome Chris!

Medesign: Your card arrived today. It is gorgeous! And I love the meaning you gave it and the way you incorporated the symbol into the design.

Off topic: I saw on your profile that you like cello music. Have you listened to Kim Barlow? She's a folk singer who uses a lot of cello, especially in her first CD.

aya 01/21/2007 #

Hi! I sent mine a few days ago, anybody got them yet?

mapps 01/22/2007 #

Keisha, Gail and Sara I sent mine out to you this morning from Toledo, Ohio. Please let me know when they arrive. You have my permission to post an image if you want. I would have done it, but I couldn't get the image to upload for some reason! Ashley

user5207 01/23/2007 #

I got amazing card from iClone today. I love the style and the interpretations and pretty much everything about it! I think I will put it beside my computer to remind myself to go back to basics and challenge myself with something new every once in a while :)

mapps 01/24/2007 #

Please do post cards as they arrive (although it is nice to get permission from the artist first) I would love to see what is going on!

ktsmurf 01/25/2007 #

I'm sending cards out to Minty, iClone, and BlueJul in the morning's post. You have my permission to post the images if you'd like.

user2479 01/26/2007 #

Ashley, I got my card from you this morning - it's amazing! What a high standard to set - eek! I will try to take a photo and upload (more to the point, will try to do justice to the card...)

user2479 01/26/2007 #

I can't load an image either :-(
