**** Edited this swap to take out the vial of beads for hearts requirement****

This swap is open to people with a 4.5 rating or higher. No recent no-sends. This swap is international.

Beads are my favorite thing in the world so i thought that i would do a rainbow bead swap.

For this swap you will have one partner.

You will be required to send your partner 10 different beads of each color of the rainbow. They do not have to be the full color they can just have that color somewhere in it. The colors you must send are:

10-Red 10-Orange 10-Yellow 10-Green 10-Blue 10-Purple

No seed beads or plastic pony beads! This makes a total of 60 beads plus a vial of seed beads if you wish.

As the swap host i will be reading all profiles and i will ban any one who does not seem like they will send. Remember we all like to recieve our swaps and it is not fair to someone if they send one and do not recieve!

If you do not have a rating of 4.5 or higher but would like to do a bead swap pm me and maybe we can set up a private swap of less beads so that you can get ratings so that you can join in the next one.

Just want to clarify: When you say "They do not have to be the full color they can just have that color somewhere in it", you mean to say it must have MOST of that colour so you can tell which colour of the rainbow it is meant to be, right?

Hearts should never be part of a swap requirement. It should always be a swapper's discretion to give or not.

shopandbid 05/12/2008 #

I agree with VJP

Lunaria 05/12/2008 #

Ok, I'm going to be a spelling snob, but "vile" means nasty, filthy, unpleasant; "vial" means a little bottle.

A11ThatJazz 05/12/2008 #

ya it should have most of the color in it. and my mistake on the vile/vial word... thanks for catching it, and as for the heart i think that it should be a requirement because a vial of beads isnt that expensive and some people out there do not have the money to send a whole bunch of extras... so this is my way of giving some other people a chance to get some hearts... although i can not force you to give some one a heart if they send you a vial of beads that is up to you.

niecedenise 05/12/2008 #

I also dont like being told what to send to get a heart. I think its more fun to send what I want in extras, if at all.

Hi there, I just want to say that I think the host was trying to do a positive thing by requesting the vile of seed beads as a heart item. I myself would not like to send out nice glass beads and get seed and pony beads in return. However I DO like seed beads too and the heart idea for that is great.

Life is too short to get so upset over things.

A11ThatJazz...perhaps you could offer the vile of seeds as an example for a heart?

siayla 05/12/2008 #

OOPs vial, apparently I can't spell either!

VJP 05/12/2008 #

I realize that the host was trying to do something nice, but it backfired. We are merely trying to help her understand the proper use of hearts. Here is the site FAQ for hearts:

  1. What are hearts and how do I give them? If someone sends you an extra special swap package that far exceeds the swap requirements, you can give that person a heart. The option to give someone a heart only appears when you give them the highest rating ("I got my stuff and it met posted swap requirements"). Under this rating option a check box will appear that you can mark if you want to give a heart. You do not have to give anyone a heart just because you gave them the highest rating. We suggest that you reserve giving hearts to those swappers who you think deserve even more than the highest rating (more than 5 points). The number of hearts a person has collected will be shown on their profile page next to their average rating. Lots of hearts indicates a very special swapper!

We are not trying to be negative or cause a problem, but rather educate people regarding the proper use of the rating system on Swap-bot.

Happy Swapping!!!

everyone is looking too deeply at this swap! it's supposed to be FUN!!

macka 05/12/2008 #

I was wondering how you got a total of 60 beads plus a vial of seed beads? Did you mean a total of 6 beads?

jaz1yn 05/12/2008 #

macka - I think she means 10 beads for each of the 6 colors (10 with red, 10 with orange, etc.).

A11ThatJazz 05/12/2008 #

Yes it is 10 beads for each color.

VJP- thx for the education i suppose but can you just tell me where it says that all swaps must be done the same... sorry for trying something different that i thought would be fun, and i am also very sorry if i offended you, that is not what it was meant for for. so again i am sorry

VJP 05/12/2008 #

Quite frankly, this isn't the first time a newbie has tried to incorporate hearts into swap requirements. It's a common mistake for new swappers. I never said that all swaps are to be the same, but the rating system is standard.

Also, not sure where you read that I was offended, I'm not. Just trying to help a new swapper understand the guidelines for this self directed community.

It is preferable not to INSTRUCT people to give a heart as part of the swap, but rather SUGGEST that they may want to aim for hearts. Well, that is if you want the more experienced, senior swappers in your swaps. If not, then feel free to tell people how to rate swaps within the swap guidelines.

pianoheart 05/12/2008 #

Does "aiming for hearts" mean you include tons of extra stuff with the swap or does it mean that you try to send items that your partner lists on her profile?

For example, I was just in a swap where I sent 13 items from a list and a letter to my partner. The swap was supposed to be a surprise and not necessarily relate to the partner's profile. But I went shopping with a copy of my partner's profile in hand and I was able to get almost all 13 items to relate to her profile. I even included vintage items that she collects and I mailed her box early. She received it 5 days before the swap was supposed to be mailed.

She rated me a "5" but didn't give a heart, which is up to her, as you say, but it certainly doesn't encourage me to "aim for hearts" again.

siayla 05/12/2008 #

pianoheart: You can do either for hearts. I believe that paying attention to a persons profile deserves a heart and you most definitely would have received one from me. I always send extras related to their profile and hope people will rate accordingly but some people don't even rate you. However there are lots of fabulous people on swapbot. To me I love to put a smile on someones face and that is my payment. I strive to give what I think someone would like and hope that they will rate accordingly so I know I pleased them. Don't give up! In my experience there are far fewer people like that here, then people who appreciate all you do!

stacirose 05/13/2008 #

VJP, your self-righteousness is disgusting.

This is supposed to be a fun swap and you set her up from the first question you asked. This dialogue should have been between you and the coordinator - and calling her a newbie as if it was a bad word is appalling. She's entitled to create whatever swap guidelines she wants, it's her swap - the members can feel free to follow those extra guidelines or not. She didn't make it mandatory but you made this forum very painful to read.

It's too bad more people don't stand up to you - she tried very hard to make you happy, but I suspect that's an impossibility. Make your own rainbow bead swap - no one said you had to join this one or even spend large amounts of time putting the coordinator down in a public venue.
