Date items must be sent by:August 24, 2013
Number of swap partners:2
Description:

For this swap, make 2 different mini-zines for two partners.

The theme? Teach me something! For example:

  • a craft technique
  • how to communicate better with others
  • how to make a great care package
  • the history of jazz music
  • 6 great books to read before you die
  • A recipe/recipes
  • How not to go bonkers while studying at college/uni
  • A medical condition you want your partner to understand more about

Pick some topics you're passionate about and want to share. This is senders choice, but if you don't want to recieve certain themes and it is very important - share in the comments or let your partner know immediately as the swap begins (i.e. no religion, nothing food-based, nothing triggering)

Zines can look however you wish - mostly text, lots of art, multi-media with embellishments or sleek and printed out.

You should send each partner either 2 minizines. If you would prefer to make them each 1 full-size zine (instead of 2 mini-zines), that also fufils swap requirements; but anyone who recieves 2 mini zines should rate 5, as that is the main idea of the swap. (I just want to leave full-size as an option in case making mini cramps your style ^_^)

(How to make a mini zine: http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/mini_zine)

Swap rules: I will consider any swappers above 4.00, but will check profiles before assigning partners and ban anyone who looks flakey. Flakey: lots of drama, recent 1s and 3s, overdue swaps, not logged in for ages etc. I will angel if there are problems.

Two mini zines each to two partners = 4 mini-zines in total. Or, if you choose to make full-size zines, then 2 full size zines in total, one to each.

One week to sign up + two weeks to create and post = 3 weeks in total, if you choose to start work in advance. Please communicate with your partner if you are going to be late, and be kind if your partner is having difficulties.

This seems pretty crafty. I'd make it a type three. Watching for now.

My thinking was that a zine is still essentially flat mail. However, I checked and you're right - all the other zines on the site are type 3 swaps. So I've changed it. Good thinking, Batman :)

Just to clarify: your zine can be about anything you like. I just listed some example ideas.

Can it be soley one topic? Or does it have to be more than one topic?

Clarification: If I send a larger zine( and nothing else) does that meet the requirments for the swap? Or do I also have to send a mini zine?

Sarah90 08/ 5/2013 #

Also, do I have to adhere to partner's likes and dislikes to meet the swap requirements?

picupurcross 08/ 8/2013 #

So... 2 partners and 2 mini zines to each partner?

Unmutual 08/ 9/2013 #

Sarah90 - sorry for being unclear :)

One topic is absolutely fine! Just make sure you don't send two copies of the same zine to one person.

No, you do not have to adhere to partner's likes/dislikes. It's always nice to check profiles, though, in case a topic is totally out. (Lots of swaps say "nothing religious" - I don't want to do that, but I do want to remind individual swappers to set that boundary if they want it; similarly, if people are doing recipes, then you might want to check if they are vegan/allergic)

I'll change it to 1x fullsize zine or 2x minizines.

Picupurcross - yes. So make four in total. They can be copies, just so long as each person gets 2 different zines.

Great swap! I'm in! So, it's okay to make 1 full-size zine for each partner. That is a folded a4, isn't it? Is there a minimum number of pages?

Unmutual 08/12/2013 #

Yes, a folded A4. I think 4 pages plus a cover would be the minimum for a full-size zine - that's one A4 sheet folded in half, written on both sides. But that's only a minimum if you want to write more.

(My thinking is: to make 2 minizines, you need to write on 2x A4 sheets. So the equivalent for a full-size zine would be one double-sided A4 sheet.)

Sorry to keep rehashing this topic... but for the larger zine... is a folded letter sized paper the correct size? Folded it would be 8 1/2 inches x 5 1/2 inches.
