I love mini zines! If you do too or if you've never made one but always wanted to... this is the swap for you! :)

For this swap you will have two partners.

You will mail each partner 1 mini zine (an 8 page zine made from 1 sheet of paper). The zines you mail are normally photocopied from an original, you keep the original.

Zines may be on any topic using any style you're comfortable with.

If you are new to making mini zines, here's a great instructional template from TangleCrafts... http://tanglecrafts.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/mini-zine-pdf.pdf

Open to swappers with a minimum rating of 4.94, no recent 1's or 3's. I will angel, if necessary, after you have rated a 1.

Have fun and post below if you have any questions! :)

I probably cannot join. but a question or two.

The zine is folded, then we write our articles correct? The copy it and the then refold it and send it off. So both partners get the same zine correct?

KristinCali 06/17/2013 #

Hmmm I have never created a zine before but I'm tempted to join this one. @fawnscrafts I think it would be easier to write everything before folding.

I always fold my paper first that way I can easily keep track of what page I'm working on, but that's just me. :) After all your pages are completed, make copies for your partners, fold the copies, and mail them off! It's actually very easy! :)

picupurcross 06/17/2013 #

@fawnscrafts you can send both partners the same zine or different zines if you have extras you've previously made. It's up to you!

@KristinCali hope you decide to join! They're so much fun to make!

soyprincesa2 06/17/2013 #

To any of you new to zine making..... Make sure and not write all the way to the edge of the page since most copy machines cut off a few centimeters.

KristinCali 06/17/2013 #

Alright I did some googling of zines, and I'm in!

picupurcross 06/17/2013 #

@soyprincesa2 thanks for the great tip!! @KristinCali happy to have you! :)

So happy to see new zinesters as well as those with lots of experience! If there's enough interest, I'll host more! :)

lezzerby 06/23/2013 #

Do you have to stick to the 8-page style mini-zine or can it be longer?

picupurcross 06/24/2013 #

Yes, please use the 8 page style for this swap. :)

Wingy 06/24/2013 #

soyprincesa2 06/25/2013 #

@picupurcross Congrats Joy!!! I don't know if I have ever seen a zine EVER get this much participation!!! It's wonderful to see so many new people giving zines a try!!!! They will see just how addictive they are!!! Gosh.... I wish I could swap with all 15! Can you imagine how expensive that would be?!?!? :)

picupurcross 06/25/2013 #

Thanks, Maggie! I agree... I am pleasantly surprised by how many have joined! I'm thankful to my regular zine swapping friends who are signed up and thrilled to see the new zinesters who are giving it a go for the first time! This is going to be a blast!! :)

KristinCali 06/26/2013 #

Woohoo! I completed THREE issues and I'll be sending all 3 to my partners :D

picupurcross 06/26/2013 #

Three? You rock! But I knew once you started that you'd love making them!! :)

andreatally 06/27/2013 #

I'm excited, and a bit nervous for this swap . . . What are some of the subjects that one would put in a zine? Does the zine have to be hand drawn (can you say stick figure)? Or can it be a mix of stuff printed off the internet, hand writing, etc? Please advise!

Thank you in advance!

picupurcross 06/27/2013 #

@andreatally Welcome! The subjects for zines can literally be anything! They can be personal (your favorite things, show us where you live, etc.)... or educational (how to)... or just fun (whimsical art). It's really up to you!

The same goes for how you make it... you can draw (yes, even stick figures :)), paint, collage, computer graphics, just text, or use a combination. Most of all, have fun with it!

I hope this helps! Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions or concerns! :)

KristinCali 06/29/2013 #

@andreatally I did mine in handwriting then used patterned paper for borders and die-cut images for decorations.
