Description:

Calling all crafters and matchbox mavens:) You will decorate and fill 1 large matchbox (250 ct size) with crafty goodness! Think of it as a crafty, stash-y goodie box you will make and send to a friend!

The outside must be decorated and lovely. The inside must be filled to the brim with new/usuable crafty items such as:

  • brads
  • stickers (good quality, not the freebie ones)
  • ribbons or lace or trim
  • buttons
  • beads (no seed beads or plastic beads)
  • polymer clay (new) or item made with PC
  • charms (handmade or new)
  • wooden shapes
  • punched paper shapes
  • large sequins or confetti
  • feathers
  • a fat quarter (yup, one will fit into a 250 ct - it's a squeeze!)
  • postage stamps (new or used:)
  • kawaii or other memo sheets
  • post it pads or other small notebooks
  • handmade envelopes
  • swap cards
  • finished atcs or good quality blanks
  • atc sleeves
  • jewelry making supplies like wire, clasps, findings
  • finished handmade or a diy kit for jewelry (earrings, necklace, anklet, bracelet)
  • bottlecaps (finished or ready to use)
  • deco tape
  • sewing needles or a needlebook
  • pincushions
  • small paper punches
  • rubber stamps
  • stamp pads
  • glitter or embossing powders
  • small 32 ct filled matchbox or empty ones ready to be altered
  • interesting paper clips
  • interesting push pins
  • mini pens or markers
  • cute erasers
  • candy (see note below)
  • any crafty small handmade item you might be delighted to send or receive such as earrings, a book thong, a small amigurumi, a dishcloth, atcs, inchies, magnets, mini journals, altered tins, dotee dolls.

Let's spoil our partner with crafty delights and supplies! Okay, I bit of candy is always appreciated when crafting so I'll put candy on the list too:)

Items not allowed: eyelets, paper scraps, dirty or stained items, used items (with the exception of postage stamps), pet items (although pet themed items are fine), boring office supplies.

Since this is a stash based, handmade swap, I won't put a $$ amount on this but I imagine that it's at probably about $5-10 worth of stuff (either that you would buy new or pay for at a craft fair - I paid $5 for a book thong that I "had" to have at the last flea market I went to, lol:).

Let's not get too worried on the dollar value but let's make a matchbox to be proud of. To the extent possible, you may wish to tailor it to your recipient's interests, but since this is a stash based swap, it is not required. You are free to start your matchboxes asap! Raters, please take note.

Now for the admin:

  • US only
  • For rated swappers of 4.8 or better, newbies only with recommendation from a rated/seasoned swapper
  • No no sends in the last three months (if you have a 1 from an international recipient or otherwise, please pm me to discuss)
  • No mention in the various Flaker groups
  • Must be rated on 10 real mail swaps
  • Hostess will NOT angel for this swap
  • Hostess will ban participants the day after the swap closes
  • All matchboxes sent must by your original work but may include re-gifted, new items, including new handmade items you received in a swap. Credit must be given to the original creator of any re-swapped, handmade item.

Any questions, please pm me. Phew, thanks for reading this lengthy explanation of a fairly simple swap:)

Brads are okay, but eyelets aren't..why? I love eyelets! : )

I know it says that seed beads are not ok to send, but I am always in need of them, so if you want to include those that is ok with me!

Oh and just a question...Does anyone have a matchbox pattern? This will be one of my first, and I don't have a 250 ct on hand.

Ooohhhh, I LOVE seed beads, too! I'd like them in my box (as long as they are not running around loose in the box). grin

No eyelets unless you get permission from your recipient - many people do not have eyelet setters! Same with seed beads, ask first and send if okay'd by your recipient! Thanks much!

The only pattern I have seen for a large matchbox is on ArtsyFartsy's flickr page: http://flickr.com/photos/15991981@N08/2291992719/

If you are going to make a 250 ct, please make sure it is made from chipboard or other rigid & sturdy cardboard, not card stock!

I'm a newbie and am so excited about getting started! I have participated in various other swap, but have just "discovered" you. What do I need to do next?
