UPDATED
Tired of the same old junk mail, bills, "Dear Resident", catalogs and other useless, mass market mail box litter? Me too!

In this easy, newbie friendly, international swap, you will write (by hand or neatly typed/printed) one pen pal letter to a fellow swapper some where out there across the globe or across the street.

The letter should be one page, front and back. Write about where you live, what you do, what your home and gardens are like, what it's like where you live - I like to think of it as a mental vacation - imagining a similar life in a very different place.

Yes we all work, cook, clean, shop, take mass transit or drive, dine out, walk around - what do you see on your daily trek? What makes home 'home'. What would you miss if you lived 50,000 miles away? What should someone somewhere else know to cherish about your home, your hometown, your state or your country?

To quote Isak Dinesen, "I am an arm chair traveler...." I love to travel, in my imagination or for real.

Your pen pal letter should provide an upbeat, delightful, descriptive peek into somewhere that is not 'here', wherever 'here' is for your recipient!

If you care to send something small along with your letter, please feel free - it's not necessary but may help give a more local flavor: postcard, picture, bar coaster, local menu, matchbox, ad magnet.

All that is required is one pen pal letter, one page front and back, sent via first class mail to your recipient.

Absolutely no postcards allowed in lieu of letters - this must be a full page letter sent in an envelope. You are welcome to enclose a postcard in addition to the letter.

Welcome Degard!

abandy 05/ 3/2008 #

Does everything have to be written, or can we do photographs?

OrigamiGrace 05/ 4/2008 #

Abandy, everything must be written. Photographs would be sent as an additional, but not required item.

lavenderspretty 05/13/2008 #

this sounds like soooo much fun!! I can't wait to get mine out....

OrigamiGrace 05/13/2008 #

Oh boy, looks like we're gonna hit a 100 swappers at this rate!

stamperkittie 05/15/2008 #

I was really looking forward to having some new penpals I didnt know you had to have a special rating to be able to participate to make a new friend, didnt know penpals had to have a rating to make friends

anwyn 05/15/2008 #

Stamperkittie - the point of giving a minimum rating for a swap is that people have less chance of being flaked in the swap. There is nothing worse than spending lots of time writing a lovely letter to someone and then getting nothing in return because your partner hasn't bothered. I'm sure if you speak to the organiser they will be happy to discuss your rating with you and say why they can or can't let you join the swap.

OrigamiGrace 05/15/2008 #

Please read the entire swap description! This is a swap for 4.7 or better with no 1 ratings in the last three months. THank you!

anwyn 05/20/2008 #

OrigamiGrace 05/31/2008 #

OrigamiGrace 06/ 2/2008 #

I need a bit of help trying to calculate postage... For some reason usps.com wont let me calculate the postage cost for my letter to my partner. Can someone tell me how much a 1 oz letter will cost to send from 30116 (my zip code) to N9A 4E7 (her zip code)

OrigamiGrace 06/ 2/2008 #

Is that UK? Most EU and Canada is $.94 for a one ounce letter. Try using the country code.

KawaiiNekomini 06/ 2/2008 #

I figured it out and got it sent off! Not sure how long it will get there. Probably in 4 to 5 days max.

blackbody 06/24/2008 #

Sent it finally! :)

kiwideb 07/ 9/2008 #

My letter has come back to me stamped "undeliverable" - shall I send it again and hope it gets through? The address on the envelope was the same as that given in partner details. Also, shall I send her a message to let her know what happened, and that another letter is on the way?

OrigamiGrace 07/11/2008 #

Kiwideb - pls pm your recipient and find out what is up! I will do the same!

OrigamiGrace 07/11/2008 #

Flakers so far: jophoto1972 (fully suspended), karloff, craftypetal.

Still 2-3 non senders that are rated and I remain hopeful they will send.

Thanks!

havehope76 08/ 1/2008 #

I have re-sent mine twice from FL to the UK and was rated a 1 today... I just finished writing another one. So hope third time is a success...

How funny that mine FROM the UK also has NOT arrived. I just rated my partner a 1 but will be so glad to change it. My one and her 1 ruined perfect 5 ratings... :(

Undeniably consider that which you stated. Your favorite justification seemed to be at the web the simplest factor to take into account of. I say to you, I certainly get annoyed even as other folks consider concerns that they plainly do not recognize about. You controlled to hit the nail upon the highest and also outlined out the entire thing with no need side-effects , folks could take a signal. Will likely be again to get more. Thank you bk8 nl

An impressive share, I merely given this onto a colleague who was doing a little analysis for this. Anf the husband in truth bought me breakfast simply because I found it for him.. smile. So i want to reword that: Thnx for your treat! But yeah Thnkx for spending plenty of time to talk about this, I feel strongly regarding this and really like reading regarding this topic. If it is possible, as you grow expertise, can you mind updating your blog site with a lot more details? It’s highly useful for me. Huge thumb up with this writing! nhΓ  cΓ‘i Miso88
