This is a swap for people who are learning Japanese and want to practice their written language skills!

You will have ONE partner to whom you will send a short letter in which you should explain (in English) why you're studying Japanese and how long you've been learning it for. The rest of it should be in Japanese!

  • You can write in either romaji or kana (hiragana or katakana only - no kanji)
  • Your letter should be around one side of A5 (or longer if you prefer!)

As this is for beginners you should use simple phrases. If you are more accomplished at Japanese and would like to take part please taken into account when writing your letter that your recipient may only have basic Japanese reading skills.

Any problems or questions, just let me know!

がんばって! (ganbatte!)

Are kanji OK as long as they are always accompanied by furigana?

meganekko 03/11/2013 #

@pne That'd be fine.

Cool, thanks!

Tomomi 03/14/2013 #

Can I join from Japan?

WormwoodWaltz 03/14/2013 #

This swap is perfect! I'm going to ask my Sensei if I can get extra credit from the letter :)

meganekko 03/14/2013 #

@Tomomi Of course! If you are a native speaker please be careful to write only basic phrases, the kind a beginner student would know :o)

@WormwoodWaltz That sounds great!

If you want to write on genkō yōshi (Japanese manuscript paper), you can print your own genkō yōshi here.

The Wikipedia article genkō yōshi describes this paper and how to use it.
