Description:

I have become a huge fan of Smashbooks and zines. I have decided to combine the two into one.

Using patterned paper, ephemera, and all sorts of paper products you will create a mini smashbook/zine. Book size must be no larger than 4 1/2 inches x 6 inches and no few than 6 pages front and back. (Please use a variety of different types of paper or patterns)

You will make a cover (using cardstock or something else appropriate) and bind using staples or stitching or tiny rings.

Now... to make it more of a zine you will tell a story inside the pages of the Smashbook. You can use the Smashbook to create a page by page shopping list, or wishlist, share your list of ex-boyfriends and why they are ex's or places you have always wanted to visit with pictures. Include ephemera, collage, photos, sketches, words (handwritten or using a computer).

The point is... YOU ARE TELLING A STORY, NO MATTER HOW BRIEF. This book is NOT for them to tell their story when they receive it... it's for YOU TO TELL THEM YOUR STORY, so when they receive it they can know something about YOU!!!

Minimum Requirements: 4.95 rating and no unexplained 1's or 3's in the last 6 months.

This sounds really cool, but I would love to see an example... A zine doesn't always tell a story- sometimes it just has a theme, but so do many journals... Am I understanding that is essentially what you are looking for- a theme? For example- if someone went away for a weekend- could it be about that? (they would "smash" items from the weekend, but write about it also.. ) I may be confused about the difference between this and a mini journal....

@Rubyfreckles I honestly haven't seen a picture of a smashbook zine or I definitely would have posted it. You are taking different types of paper (scrapbook paper, maps, brochures, graph paper, anything) and the easiest way would be to fold them and staple them into a little book. Then using your own style you could add a story to the pages.... like tell about a trip you took over Christmas break and include little photos or travel memorabilia on the pages. You could tell the story of your ex boyfriends and include little pictures and bits and pieces that could represent the years you dated (ticket stubs, logo from a restaurant). It just needs to be more than a smashbook with stuff that ONLY would make sense to you. Tell the story of you or something from your life or make a smashbook to show your Top 10 list of places to go or things to do before you die. Does that make sense.

hmm, vaguely? LOL

By telling a story do you mean writing the story or can it be implicitly told with the items smashed?
