Description:

So as Crafting Queens we all have our crafting kingdoms, be it a room or a desk, where the crafting magic happens. So let's pay homage to one another and give out a key to our kingdom :)

This swap is for an altered key that'll rock your partner's world enough for them to want to come over and play with you.

  • Use a real key as the base. No paper / plastic fakies. It can be ornamental (like the Tim Holtz kind), from a thrift store or one rescued from the 'where does this go again' drawer. Standard key size or bigger. Go for one 6cm / 2.5" or bigger. You can use mini / charm keys as decor, but not as the main key being altered.

  • Alter that baby gloriously. Do not be skirrid. Go for it! More is more in this swap :) Want some inspirational eye candy? Ooohhhh - clickity click thing. Youtube is also filled with how-to's. Have a fav altered artist? Share please :)

There's a month to fiddle with this, so take your time and really enjoy the adventure. Make something brag-worthy and give yourself permission to go spectacular.

The usual swap fineprint applies:

  • no recent / unexplained 1's or 3's (within 6 months).
  • 4.95+ to participate
  • Put effort into this one - you're a Queen and so is she. Respect that. Newbies to altered art are welcome, as long as you are really putting effort in. Be fair in rating.
  • Sender's choice.
  • I'll boot where I feel uncomfortable.
  • Package it for safe international travel. This key is going places :)
  • I'll angel, but flake at your own risk. The wrath will be epic and memorable. Besides, it really sucks when royalty flakes.

Any questions, please ask. :)

Off course :) I'm pretty taken with altering stuff in 2013, so I'll be posting a few of these. I am pretty excited about the key though ;)

I collect skeleton keys but have never altered one! Danger, danger, new addiction approaching.

Love altering keys! I too have a few in my Flikr pic's...

I watched some youtibe vids and in between all the awesomeness the only thing that is consistant is:

Keys get hot under a heatgun!

So have fun ladies (whee!) but be safe please :) Can't wait to see what everyone gets up to :)

I just spent the day searching my drawers, jewellery box and jars of junk in my craft room - I now have a good selection of keys, broken jewellery and metal bits and bobs - ready to give this a try

I purchased some glue that says for metal & glass - does this work well? What does everyone else use to attach the small bits?

Mar1l1ze 02/16/2013 #

@DLD - I did exactly the same with my jewellery drawer and craft room stash. This is exciting times ;)

As for glue - metal should work if the surface is clean. Or a hot glue gun? There is also a glue in America that is like the best craft glue ever for 'not paper' crafts - E6000? We don't have it here, but most if the tuts I see online use that. If in doubt, grab that :)

Partners assigned - happy swapping everyone :)

Any queries / problems / new discoveries - lemme know.

I went to a Scrap-a-thon today - not to scrap, but to buy some more metal findings - got great bargains at 50 cents a bag - I got lots to work with now. Thanks @mar1l1ze for the glue tip - we have that in Canada, also have Gorilla glue, so will see what works best.
