Description:

For those of you who enjoy postcard scavenger swaps, this one should present a different sort of challenge, hopefully one you will enjoy. It will be all about different types of buildings and architectural structures or elements.

You will have one partner and you will send your partner six (6) postcards (together, in an envelope) selected from any of the categories listed below. Include only one card per category, so that your partner will receive cards representing six of the categories. All postcards must be blank and unused, but they may be modern or vintage. Please send cards that are in good condition, but with the understanding that vintage cards may show some effects of aging such as a little yellowing. The postcards may be photographic or an artistic rendition, cartoon, etc., but no handmade cards will be allowed. You may use postcards that have been commercially made by Zazzle or Redbubble as long as the quality of the image is excellent.

We are looking for exterior views, not interiors, from six of the following categories:

  • bank
  • barn
  • gate or archway (may be just these elements or a larger structure that includes these elements)
  • governmental building (examples include post offices, state capitol buildings, etc.)
  • historical site (that includes some sort of building)
  • hospital
  • hotel, motel or inn
  • museum
  • palace, castle or mansion
  • personal residence (house, mobile home or apartment building, but not a boat)
  • religious building (church, temple, chapel, synagogue, mosque, etc.)
  • restaurant or diner
  • school (examples include high schools, university buildings, academies, etc.)
  • store
  • tower, turret or pillars (may be just these elements or a larger structure that includes these elements)
  • prison

Please include a note or use sticky notes to indicate which category each postcard fits. Please rate your partner based on whether or not your partner followed the directions and not whether or not you liked all of the postcards you received.

You must have a rating of 4.9 or above to join this swap. Profiles will be checked and I will drop anyone who looks hinky to me (recent 1s or 3s). Thanks for looking and I hope you will join!

UPDATE: Do not use ad card freebies for this swap. I understand that it might be a little difficult to determine if a postcard is an ad card when it is showing a commercial enterprise like a restaurant, hotel, or store. If the card is clearly to be used as a postcard in that it provides ample space for you to write a message and the recipient's address, that is acceptable. It is okay if it provides a small amount of information concerning the business, but promotion of the business should not overwhelm the card.

Just to clarify - no ad cards, right? (I'm nervous that some might send ad cards from restaurants or stores.)

couchart 01/26/2013 #

@ilovemail I edited the instructions to address the ad cards.

This might seem like a silly question - and maybe I missed seeing it listed, but how about a prison? Definitely a building... ;) It's a stone structure. Not an ad card - haha - It has fallen into disuse and is now a touristy place for Halloween ghost hunts - thus why it is featured on my non-Halloween card.

I forgot to tag you. :p @couchart Okay I guess it might be government building, but I have another postcard for government building :/

Is a multi-view with both an interior and exterior view okay? Thanks!

couchart 01/30/2013 #

@sizzixbee I added prison to the list. :-)

@jamiebee1 I think a multiview would be fine as long as one of the views fits a category that is listed.

Tricia22 01/30/2013 #

It it ok if some of the pc's are black & white?

couchart 01/31/2013 #

@tricia22 absolutely! :-)
