Description:

I love to read old postcards! I also love a lot of the old photos and sayings and decorations I see on older postcards. Here's the challenge: try to find an old used postcard (vintage shops are a good source) that is interesting to read (or look at, if you are unfamiliar with the language) and with an interesting cover. Send it in an envelope with a short note about why you picked this postcard for your partner.

Unrated folks or folks with no recent 1's or 3's are welcome to participate. Please read your partner's profile to be sure that they would not object to what you are sending, otherwise, try to fit some aspect of their profile but ultimately this is sender's choice.

This is the PERFECT swap but i wish it turned up a bit later when i find a vintage store which sells vintage postcards -.-" None of the ones i've tried do. Please let me know if you host this again in the future! I would love to join.

Yay great! I actually been meaning to create a swap like this, I'm glad someone did it first =) ... Does it have to be in english ? Cause that would be a little more difficult to find, or too expensive. I could translate it.

To goobebox: Have you tried philatelic shops? I've found used and unused vintage PC there.

No way to English only! Much more interesting to many of us, I expect, if it is in a different language -- but if it is in a language you understand, please translate for your partner if it s not their primary language! I love postcards in any language, especially if I have to search for someone to translate -- kind of fun to do that!

Thanks!

Antique stores are a great source for vintage postcards

If you can't find these locally, you can find batches of used vintage postcards on eBay.

How old is the postcard supposed to be?

rngstgstll 10/24/2012 #

Hmm, that is a good question. Old enough to be thought of as old? Old enough to be sent a generation ago, or to make me want to understand better the time period and circumstances in which it was sent, old enough to be compelling/ interesting/ something that I want to keep? For me, that could mean something compelling from the 70's, but I expect many of us might feel that older is better ... I was imagining something from the 40's or earlier, but vintage does seem interesting, too.

Fellow swappers, let me know what you think!

Most of my collection is 1900-1940. I have some 50s - 70s which are neat. I would be fine with any before 1980.

That's great -- for me it is as much about the interesting message on the back as it is the subject on the front. If the note is very interesting, then I would love it for that! I found one recently in French that was written from an aunt who missed her niece's piano recital and was asking about it -- very sweet!

Most of my collection is also 30-40's. I have some here that I want to sell, so instead of that for this swap I will find one that is written on and send that one.
