Make an Envelope #7 - USA/Canada

Is there some special way to have the sides and flap done, so it is sealable ? Or do we glue the sides and use a sticker for the flap? Have (obviously) never done an envelope before. thanks for your help, sounds like a fun swap.

I use double sided tape to stick the side flaps down. You could also put one on the top flap and leave the paper on it so your partner could then seal it when they use it. But if you use a handmade envie to mail stuff I would be re-enforcing with clear packing tape anyway. The post office is ROUGH on mail. I always tape the edges of any envie I send that is not a flat piece of mail.

thequilterslink: They sell "envelope glue" or you can make your own to have lickable adhesive on the flap of an envelope.

I tend to use one of those rolling scrapbook adhesive applicators to make the envelope and to seal it all up.

tiggerkitn25: Most paper should stand up to the USPS machines, but if it's thinner, then you may need to line it to reinforce it. I've never had to use packing tape to reinforce my envelopes, and they've all gotten there ok. And then they're more recyclable afterwards than with the tape.

I use glue stick and then if need be tape. For thinner paper, I will use the packing size of clear tape. So it is like it has been reinforced with that clear plastic stuff. I cannot recall the name of the material.

I also use wall paper for envelopes, they are usually strong. However I have yet to find a decent glue that is easy to use, so I almost always reinforce the seams with tape.

I have so much to do and another trip, then working in Denver for the balance of the month, so I am considering this swap. I want to join, but I have to make sure I have the time to make the envelopes real good.

Magazine pages make easy envelopes, but to me, I would feel I took the easy way out and cheat my partner sending those.

I prefer my envelopes without tape because they are so pretty and I end up destroying them trying to get them open.

One way to make the envelopes sturdy enough for mailing is with wallpaper seam paste. You find it in a tub or tub (very reasonable) in the home improvement section of many stores where paint and wallpaper is sold. Look in the area with border trim, etc. And, I want to give credit to @DixieDiane for this information. She is the wallpaper envie queen! : )

Thank you @bb2 I will look intothe glue when I get an afternoon I can get to the home stores. I know in Denver where I work there is one near by.

Donot feel you are taking the easy way out by using magazine pages or covers for envelopes. I have received some and they do just find when I use them to send to someone with a letter or card etc. in them. I use calenders a lot or stock paper but have used Birds and Bloom pages for envelopes and they turn out great. Never did wallpaper, seems very stiff but would love to get one to see if that is the way I would like to go next time.

As of today with Saturday being the send date I have notified and asked 13 swappers to please remember to send or mark it sent if they did or even notify their swappers as to being late. It is just a courtesy. If you are in my swaps I am concerned when swappers don't receive after sending theirs.
