I'm so excited to run this swap with this group!

We will each make a booklet by folding 8 1/2 X 11" (A4 will work for our international friends) pieces of either 110 lb. cardstock or 90 lb. watercolor paper and sewing it down the middle (by hand or machine). We'll figure out how many pages after we see how many want to play. It could also be stapled if you absolutely couldn't sew. Just make sure that the pages fold over neatly.

Holding the booklet closed you will treat it as a fat postcard and do a journal page, collage, or painting on one side and use the other for the address, note and stamps. Apply stickers or small pieces of packing tape to the three open sides for mailing. If you would like people to stick to a theme, please put that in your first note to the partner you send to.

I sent a couple of experimental booklets out and you can see them here . They seem to be traveling well and I'm pretty sure this idea will work.

When you get the first mailart zine in the mail, cut open the tape, fold over a page and again treat the booklet as a fat postcard. Try to complete your page and move it along to your partner as soon as possible~~at least within two weeks. I set up this thread to keep track of whose booklet you have and how we are progressing. It would also be great if you would photograph or scan your work and post it on Flickr. I will make sure after assigning partners that they all work in a circle. If not, wait and I'll reassign partners.

We will all work in each booklet eventually. At the end of the process we will each have our own round robin mailart zine that has traveled far and wide! Note that since we are an international group, you may be sending to the same international partner 10 times. If anyone REALLY has an issue with sending internationally each time, let me know and we can re-arrange the order. Please post any questions below or on the forum page.

So, will you repost this swap in order to keep assigning new partners? Or, will you create a list of everyone from this swap and it will kind of be like a chain letter ... I've often wondered how to do round robin swaps at swapbot and I haven't wrapped my brain around it yet ...

Swapbot automatically assigns partners in round robin fashion. You will always be sending and receiving from the same person and eventually your zine makes it back to you. The last one I ran only has one zine that is still in transit, so it DOES work. I usually have to keep extending the dates so that the swap stays on top of your dash, but that's the only thing out of the ordinary. Woof...

Don't worry, I'll answer any questions when I get back before partners get assigned for this. :)

I have a question, when we post we put a piece of tape or sticker on three open sides, when the next person gets it they cut the tape the pieces of tape left on will have to stay as could ruin the work if removed, I find it hard to express myself in written form, I hope you understand what I mean and yes there is a question in there somewhere. lol

The tape question..ahhhh...I found that most of the time I could simply slice the seal and trim the tape edges so that the art wasn't ruined by trying to peel packing tape. Good question, @2012stash Washi tape is less sticky and can be removed, but could also come off in the mail and make a mess.

I'm going to copy this over to the forum...I'm more likely to check here for questions as this gets going.
