Description:

This is the second in a 12-month series of quilt blocks that represent the birthstone for each month. At the end of the series, you should have a nice collection of assorted color blocks for a quilt or other project!

We will make our two partners one 12 x 12 inch quilt block with the pattern for the month. Make sure you leave a quarter inch seam all the way around, so the square you send measures 12.5 x 12.5 inches. Measure your block before sending! Each side should be 12.5" long!"

August's pattern is the Scrap Zig Zag block.

Here is the link.

This pattern is exact for the size and dimensions, so no changing is necessary.

August's color is yellow green ( peridot ). You will use a combination of a yellow green fabric (no solids, please) with white or cream.

Birthstone BOM Guidelines

If you join the BOM, you don't have to stay in it for each round. It's not a requirement that you join each month.

Make sure the fabrics are all 100% cotton fabrics and blocks are 12.5 by 12.5 inches when finished.

Press, press, press! You will get better results if you press all your seams as you assemble the block.

This swap is not profile specific, so you can start working on it as soon as you sign up.

If you flake on any of these swaps you will be banned from future Birthstone BOM swaps.

Any questions, be sure to pm me and I'll be happy to answer them.

I particularly like tone on tone fabrics and also batiks which really are one color but not "solid" -- I hope using those are within your specifications.

Yes, tone-on-tone or batiks are fine. Just not straight solids.

Although solids with white would make a good modern quilt block swap! Maybe we'll do those in the future.

Will assign partners soon, after I finish checking on one participant.
