Description:

I've just discovered chunky books and they're a delight to make and receive....so naturally, a swap is in order!

You will have 1 partner and you will make 1 chunky book for them, depicting a summer theme - maybe a day at the beach, some of your favorite summer foods and activities, anything that says summer to you.

The chunky book must contain least 8 pages. Each page must be a minimum of 4" x 4", you are welcome to go bigger or add more pages. Please bind your chunky book creatively - yarn, stitched, ribbons, rings; no staples please. Make each page pretty and chunky!

Never done a chunky book? No worries, here are some links to help you: How to Make a Chunky Book

or go over to Flickr.com or etsy.com and search for examples - lots of lovelies there! I use brown paper sandwich bags folded in half as the pages of my books and glue cardstock or scrapbooking paper to each side, then embellish.

Administrivia:

  • US only, feel free to make an int'l one!
  • Rated 4.8 swappers or better and no no-sends in the last 3 months of signup
  • Must have participated in a minimum of 10 real mail swaps
  • Must have logged into SB within 1 week of signup date
  • I reserve the right to ban any swapper I'm not comfortable with
  • I will ban swappers the day after signups close so don't worry if you see someone who is signed up but not qualified
  • My expectation on ratings is a 5 for an on time chunky book that meets the size, page number and theme requirements; a 3 for a late, too small, too few pages or undecorated/non chunky book or a non-book/unbound book; a 1 for no book at all!
  • All work sent must be your original artwork, no re-sending of finished chunky books
  • Any questions, pls pm me and happy swapping!

I'm keeping an eyey on this one and with a due date far enough in advance I should make the 10 by then. Great idea!

I am very disappointed that this is a US only swap. I have made the Fall and Winter Chunky Books which were both international and loved doing them. I was waiting eagerly for the Spring Book swap but that didnt come and now because I am in UK I cant join this one either. So sad. Khiaramai

I received a winter chunky book from someone out of the US, it is just beautiful.

Seconding Khiaramai - although I am hosting a Spring one. Summer's the last one left for me to have the set. I expect there will be members of the chunky books group who want to join one - I hate to dilute the potential pool for chunky book swappers with 2 running for the same thing, but you said you didn't mind...? Hope not! :/

PS I'll send you an invite to the chunk book group, in case you're interested :)

Are you talking about paper bag albums? I've never heard the term "chunky book" and I'm curious if it's similar.

OrigamiGrace 04/22/2008 #

Yes, this includes paper bag albums!

I have a question for which the answer may be obvious to everyone else, but please bear with me: does 8 pages mean 8 pages front and back or does one side count as one page? Say I was using paper bags, would I use 2 bags folded in half to make what I would count as 8 pages << (not including cover and back of book, of course), or 4 <<<<, which I would personally count as 16 pages, but perhaps you are counting the front and back as 1 page? I'm sure this is probably denseness on my part, but I've never done a chunky book before, so I just want to make sure I'm covering all my bases! Thanks!

I mean 8 pages, front and back, like a regular book, not 8 pages in the book - that would be 16 sides!! I made mine from 3 brown lunch bags, so not counting the front cover or the back, which I am leaving blank so I can write a message, mine has 10 pages total.

If you did 2 lunch bags folded in half, you would have exactly 8 pages, which is what the swap requires!

Hope that clears it up! Start your glue gun:)

Jessica, your summer chunky book will go to the post office tomorrow. Hope you enjoy!

jakfrostwife you're book is going out tomorrow too! It's my very first one - hope you like it!!

Grrr, looks like my recipient is going to end up being a flaker...I HATE when that happens and when a good swapper goes down in flames:(
