Description:

Coming from a textile design background, I've always been interested in what happens to imagery when it appears in multiples.

In this swap, you'll need to print multiples of one image onto a postcard. You can print very small images that don't overlap, or bigger images that do overlap.

You'll make one postcard for one partner. (No smaller than 4 inches by 5.5 inches.) Send it without an envelope ("naked"). Write a note on the back, even if you just say hi or explain how you made the card. :) Make sure any water-soluble media you used are properly sealed, so that it makes it through the mail in one piece. (Sometimes it rains outside!)

You can use any print making method you like, as long as the images used are produced by your own hand. (For instance, a hand-carved stamp is fine, a store-bought stamp is not.) You can screen print, or cut a stencil, or block print...whatever makes you happy.

The inspiration is "ghost image." It might be that the subject of your print is a ghost....I mean, Halloween IS around the corner! I tend to interpret the phrase "ghost image" as one of those lighter prints you might make after the "good" one is done...like if you just try to print off all the excess ink onto the paper. Artist's choice as to how to interpret the theme.

A very simple example that would fulfill the requirements is carving a stamp into a pac man ghost shape, and printing it polka-dot-style onto a 4 inch by 6 inch piece of card stock, without consistently re-inking to get one version of what "ghost image" might mean. Keep in mind, though, you can get way more complicated than that! And remember, you can always print in multiple colors or layers, or add in some color by hand after printing. Have fun!

Dazzle me! :P Or, even better, dazzle your partner!

The photo is a quick block print I'm messing around with in my sketchbook at the moment. You could easily do one crisp print, followed by a "ghost print" next to it.
